In an iridescent way, linear structure and flatness combine in the canvases and watercolors of the artist Uwe Kowski, who grew up in the former GDR, and form a pulsating structure that fills the pictorial space. Kowski, who was actually trained as a sign painter in Leipzig, transfers the verve and freedom of artistic writing into his abstract to biomorphically structured pictorial textures. Kowski's works evoke exciting references to traditional positions in art history, according to the artist himself, to the graphic conception of nature of the old German masters to the atmospheric painting of the Impressionists. Since the early 1990s, Uwe Kowski's works have been represented in numerous group and solo shows, including at the G2 Kunsthalle in Leipzig and the gallery EIGEN + ART in Berlin. Various publications are also dedicated to the artist, who has won several awards, and his works are part of numerous German collections and the Rothschild Foundation in New York.
