Andy Warhol made Saint Appolonia, who - as a sign of her martyrdom - presents a tooth she had pulled out with pliers, the motif of this work. Printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, New York. Published by Dr. Frank Braun, Düsseldorf. [EH].
• Warhol's striking creations are icons of Pop-Art.
• Warhol translates the famous Renaissance painting by Piero della Francesca (National Gallery Washington D.C.) into the language of Pop-Art.
• As an unusually prolific artist, Warhol worked in many media, among them film, photography, painting, music and performance, however, his silkscreen prints became the true emblems of his post-modern aesthetics
.
