• Erich Heckel is a founding member of the "Brücke" alongside Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Fritz Bleyl.
• In 1914, the artist trained as a paramedic and met Max Beckmann and James Ensor, among others, in medical service in WWI.
• This watercolor clearly reflects the interest in architecture of the former student of architecture.
• The watercolor is of key importance in Heckel's artistic work, it is at times considered his preferred technique and constitutes an independent pictorial genre
